Small office, BIG impact

Having a small space to work in, definitely doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style or functionality.

One of my BIG hints for home office design is to try as hard as possible not to look at your desk or work area from your bed.  This sort of arrangement causes lost sleep; especially when you can’t get work off of your mind, and keep thinking (and looking at) all of the projects that are yet to be completed.

Sometimes having your office in your bedroom,  kitchen, or other public space is just plain un-avoidable.  If this is your challenge, here is a GREAT solution:

This small but chic work space is tucked between two closet cabinets.  The key to making this area work in the bedroom is adding the draperies (from Ikea…so it’s all very affordable too!)

The way to make it ‘pop’ is to add some paint, wall paper, or a cool peg board covered in your favorite material just behind the desk, as well as some basic string lights to avoid dark corners.  If you can’t or don’t want to run electricity, then I recommend using battery operated candles.  Some of the great ones (from Target) are on automatic timers, and will come on each day for a 4 hour period.  Some are even scented in French Vanilla or Cinnamon…great for calming your senses or amping up your alertness.

Enjoy creating a special little niche for your workspace.  You’ll love working there, and be thankful to be able to pull the drapes at the end of the day so you don’t need to see projects during your relaxing evening time!
